Norman Stevens Dies in Piute County Paragliding Crash near State Route 153
Piute County, Utah (August 16, 2019) – A man was killed in a paragliding accident on Wednesday afternoon in Piute County, according to the sheriff’s office.
The incident was reported at around 2:20 p.m. August 14, on the Beaver Mountain Ranger District north of State Route 153.
Authorities said Norman Stevens, 61, slipped below his harness after takeoff. He then crashed into a deep canyon after the glider wing collapsed.
Piute and Sevier County search and rescue conducted a search and were able to locate Stevens’ body at approximately 6 p.m.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
