Brandilee Kussee Chacon and Sierra Rosalina Chacon Killed in Big Cottonwood Canyon Crash on Big Cottonwood Road

Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah (September 19, 2019) – The mother who was injured last month in a traffic accident that killed her daughter in Big Cottonwood Canyon has died, according to the police.

The accident happened just before 3:00 a.m. August 17, on Big Cottonwood Road at 9300 East, near the Butler Fork Trailhead.

Police said Brandilee Kussee Chacon, 44, and her daughter Sierra Rosalina Chacon, 16, were sleeping in the covered bed of a Ford F-250 in a designated parking area off the side of Big Cottonwood Road. A Chevrolet Malibu, occupied by four men, which was driving down the canyon, failed to negotiate the curve, left the roadway, crashed into a culvert, went airborne and landed on the cargo truck bed of the Ford.

The impact caused the Ford to rotate while the Malibu vaulted into a tree on the hillside.

Sierra was declared dead at the scene.

Brandilee was taken to the hospital in critical condition where she died on Tuesday, September 17.

Police said the four men in the car had all been drinking before the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
