Police Officer Injured in Santa Clara Hit-and-Run Crash on Santa Clara Avenue
Santa Clara, Utah (September 3, 2019) – A police officer was injured Sunday morning in a hit-and-run crash in Santa Clara, according to a local news source.
The accident happened on Sunday, September 1, in the 2800 block of Santa Clara Avenue.
As per the report, Washington County Sheriff’s Department located a man who had stolen a motorcycle in St. George, heading eastbound on Old Highway 91 and were joined by the Santa Clara/Ivins officer in a chase.
The chase was terminated about a mile later for public safety.
The suspect crashed the motorcycle into the front yard of a residence. He then got up, demanded the driver of a Toyota to exit the vehicle, and jumped into the Toyota.
The WCSO deputy and the officer caught up with the suspect, and they demanded him to surrender at gunpoint, but he accelerated and struck the officer as he drove off. The impact knocked the officer to the ground.
The police are still looking for the suspect. They found a cell phone, helmet, and gloves at the scene and were taken in as evidence and for testing.
The officer sustained injuries in the crash. His condition was not disclosed.
The crash remains under investigation.
