Police Officer Injured in Bountiful Multi-Vehicle Crash at 200 West 1800 South
Bountiful, Utah (January 14, 2020) – A police officer was injured in a head-on crash involving a chase suspect in Bountiful, according to the police.
The crash happened on January 13, in the area of 200 West 1800 South.
Police said a Woods Cross officer had pulled over a female driver when she drove towards the officer. The officer leaped out of the way to avoid being hit.
The woman took off, and the Woods Cross officer sent out a description of the vehicle, a Dodge Durango, to neighboring departments.
The Durango was reported stolen out of West Bountiful on Monday morning.
A while later, North Salt Lake Police officers located the suspect and attempted to stop her, but she fled. The officers began pursuing the woman as she drove west through North Salt Lake and Woods Cross. The chase began at IHOP at 800 West 2600 South.
The suspect hit a North Salt Lake police car and drove head-on into a Woods Cross police cruiser. The suspect then continued fleeing.
The chase ended when the suspect struck a civilian vehicle head-on in the area of 200 West 1800 South.
The suspect got out and ran from the crash, but officers chased her down and arrested her.
The officer whose cruiser was hit head-on was taken to University of Utah Hospital with back injuries.
The suspect who was driving while intoxicated during the chase is facing several charges. Medications were found in the vehicle. Police also located items that appeared to be stolen, including some Amazon packages inside the vehicle. She tried to give a false name to the police when she was arrested.
The crash remains under investigation.
